[Bandana Glassworks] Hi my name is Richard Lowrie, I was born in Anacortes Wa. On 9/20/67.
I have been blowing glass since 1999. I had a friend teach me how to blow Pyrex glass where I soon learned to make oil lamps, Christmas ornaments, animals, goblets and art. While blowing glass in 2004 a friend of mine said I should try to go to Pilchuck Glass School, so I put in my application and off to school I went. The first class I attended was Tom Farbinish, a very well established painter, glass artist and just a great guy. The second class I attended was John Miller another very established glass artist and also a real greatguy. The most recent class I attended was in 2007, with Greg Dietrich, it was a hot glass/cold studio where I learned the following techniques: Graal, Battuto, Cameo and Incisco. Going to Pilchuck was an amazing experience and a great honor. When I was accepted to Pilchuck I thought I was taking a Pyrex class but it turned out to be a soft glass class. So here I was at the biggest international art school in the world and had never touched soft glass before, the energy that was created in and around me was amazing. I purchased my
studio in August 2004 from Newport, Or. Since then the gallery list keeps growing. The following Galleries are where some of my work can be seen: Scott Milo Gallery in Anacortes, Wa., The Stone Hedge Gallery in Sedro-Wooley, Wa., Avalon Glassworks Studio/Gallery in Seattle, Wa., Albright Jewelry Gallery in LaConner, Wa., The Renaissance Celebration in B
ellingham, Wa., Serendipity in LaConner, Wa., Wildmaven Gallery in Belfair, Wa., Fusions Gallery in Ocean Shores, Wa., and North Shore Gallery in Chicago, Il. I have also made donations to several local organizations, including: Anacortes High School and Island Hospital in Anacortes, Wa., Deception Pass Visitors Center in Oak Harbor, Wa., Cancer Relay in Bellingham, Wa., NWIC in Lummi Island, Wa., Whidbey Island Bank in Sedro-Woolley, Wa., Pratt's Fine Art Center, Eugene Glass School and many local auctions within Hamilton, Wa., the community where I live. The journey that I am following right now is my heart and it fells great. So remember as we walk through life to smile often, laugh daily and be happy. Peace. Richard Lowrie, Owner and artist.
